# Set up alerts and alert rules

Choose which standard and built-in alerts your platform raises, and create your own alert rules for any event.

Updated October 4, 2026

**Who can do this:** Platform administrators (role level 1000 or higher).

As an administrator you decide which alerts your planners see. Transportial has standard alerts, a set of optional built-in checks, and custom alert rules that you build yourself, for example "temperature above 7 °C in a cooled trailer". You find all of them in the platform settings.

## Open the alert settings

1. Open the side menu (☰, top right) and choose **Settings**.
2. Click the **Environment** tab.
3. Expand the **Alerts** section.

## Standard and built-in alerts

Under **Standard alerts**, switch on or off: **Capacity alerts**, **Missing documents alerts**, **Driver conflict alerts**, **Vehicle conflict alerts** and **Means of transport conflict alerts**.

Under **Optional built-in alerts**, each check has its own switch and a short description. They are all off until you switch them on. Examples:

* Driver license missing or expired, or expiring soon
* Tachograph card expired, or expiring soon
* Banned chauffeur planned
* Non-operational vehicle, chauffeur or transport equipment planned
* Remaining drive time below trip duration, and weekly drive limit at risk
* Planned weight exceeds vehicle maximum, and planned load meters exceed vehicle capacity
* High-value goods on trip, goods without weight, stop without location
* Trip earns less than it costs, and unpriced order on trip
* Empty trip about to start, and vehicle suddenly idle

Click **Save** at the bottom of the settings page to apply your changes.

## Create a custom alert rule

1. Under **Custom alert rules**, click **\+ Add alert rule**.
2. Under **General**, enter a **Name** and a **Description**.
3. Under **Condition**, choose the **Trigger event**, for example **After a sensor value update**.
4. Click **\+ Add filter** to describe when the alert should be raised, for example when the sensor value is greater than 7.
5. Under **Alert**, choose the **Severity**: **Error**, **Warning** or **Information**.
6. Choose the **Category** (**Trip**, **Vehicle**, **Driver**, **Shipment**, **Integration**), or leave it on **Automatic**.
7. Choose the **Fix action**: the record that **View & fix** opens, such as **Open trip** or **Open vehicle**.
8. Optionally enter an **SLA (minutes)**, write a **Template message** and switch on **Automatically solve when the condition clears**.
9. Make sure **Enabled** is on, then click **Save** at the bottom of the page.

The template message can include fields between double curly brackets, for example `Temperature {{lastValueEvent.value.value}} °C on {{name}}`. If it is left empty, the rule's name is used as the message.

Switch on **Automatically solve when the condition clears** for rules about measurements, so the alert disappears when the value is back to normal.

A rule raises one open alert per record. While that alert is open, the same rule does not raise a second one for the same record; it only updates the message.

To switch off a rule temporarily, turn off **Enabled** and save. For how planners handle the alerts, see [Handle alerts](/en-us/help/alerts).
