# Cancel, remove or split a trip

Cancel a trip and hand its work back to planning, remove a trip, or divide an order over several trips.

Updated October 5, 2026

**Who can do this:** Permission to update trips. Splitting needs the capacity feature.

Plans change. You can cancel a trip that will not be driven, take parts out of a trip, or divide a transport order over several trips (legs) from the start.

## Cancel a trip

1. Open the trip.
2. Click the options menu (three dots) in the header.
3. Choose **Cancel**. The **Cancel trips** question opens: _Are you sure you want to cancel all the trips?_
4. Click **Cancel** to confirm, or **Back** to keep the trip.
5. Check that the **Trip status** now shows **Canceled**.

On the plan board you can right-click a trip and choose **Cancel**, or select several trips and click **Cancel**. The same question asks you to confirm.

### What happens when you cancel

* The status becomes **Canceled** and the trip is no longer the vehicle's current trip.
* Actions the driver did not execute go back to the planning pool, so you can plan them on another trip.
* The planning is removed from the board computer, and a carrier booking is canceled.
* Expected costs and revenue of the trip are removed from the ledger.

What happens to a shipment that was only partly driven is set in the **Trip cancellation** part of the platform's planning settings: return unexecuted actions, also return a started stop, record where the goods are now, flag the shipment for replanning and notify the order's team managers.

A canceled trip cannot be restarted. Executed actions stay on it as history and cannot be planned again.

## Remove a trip

Removing deletes a trip completely. Use it only for trips created by mistake.

1. Right-click the trip and choose **Open in new tab**. The trip opens on the **Trips** page.
2. Close the panel to see the **Trips** list.
3. Find the trip and choose **Remove** in its row actions.
4. Click **Remove** in **Delete trip** to confirm.

## Take part of a trip out

* Right-click the trip, point to **Remove shipment** and click a shipment.
* On the **Action overview** tab, drag a stop out of the list to remove it.

## Split an order into several trips

When an order is driven in legs, for example collection by your own truck and the long haul by a carrier, split it into trips.

1. Right-click the transport order or shipment and choose **Split into Trips**. On an open order you can also use the route icon.
2. For **Leg 1**, switch **Forwarded** on if a carrier drives it, and choose the **Capacity Contract**; otherwise choose the vehicle and drivers.
3. Enter the **Origin** and **Destination** of the leg. Use **Add Stop** for stops in between, or **Use Shipment Route**.
4. Under **Shipments**, switch on the shipments for this leg. Leave all off to include all of them.
5. Optionally, assign **Cost elements**, or a **Spot Quote** for a forwarded leg.
6. Click **Add Leg** and repeat for the next leg.
7. Click **Split Order**. One trip is created per leg.

Each stop of the order goes to one leg only. When a leg starts or ends at an address that is not on the shipment's route, such as your own hub, that address is added as a stop on the trip only: loading when the leg leaves it, unloading when the leg arrives there.

With the planning setting **Split shipment with automatic trip creation**, a trip created by drag and drop only takes the next unplanned A-to-B part of a shipment, so you can plan the rest on other trips.
