# Manage locations

Create addresses, drawn areas and ZIP code zones with opening hours, restrictions and cost elements, and see what happens at each location.

Updated October 5, 2026

**Who can do this:** The location permission.

Locations are the places in your address book: customer sites, warehouses, parking spots, fuel stations and zones. Stops on transport orders and trips use them, so a well-kept location (with opening hours and a correct pin on the map) makes planning and routing more reliable.

## Open the location list

1. Open the side menu (☰, top right).
2. Choose **Locations**.
3. Search by name or address.
4. Optional: filter on **Select location type**, **Country** or customer.

The columns are **Name**, **Address**, **Coordinates**, **Type**, **Made on** and **Modified on**. You can download the list; see [Filters and tables](/en-us/help/filters-and-tables).

## Create a location

1. Click **\+ Create location**.
2. In the first drop-down, choose what kind of location it is: **Address**, **Geo reference** (an area you draw on the map) or **Postalcode Zone**.
3. Enter the **Name**, for example "Amsterdam Warehouse".
4. Choose the **Type**: **Warehouse**, **Store**, **Environmental zone**, **Restricted area**, **Customer**, **Parking spot**, **Basic operations** or **Gas station**.
5. For an address, enter **Street**, **House no.**, **ZIP code**, **City** and choose the **Country**. Transportial checks the address and shows **Address found in Google Maps**, **Address partially matched in Google Maps** or **Address could not be found in Google Maps**.
6. When the address is found, a map appears with a pin. Drag the pin to the exact entrance or gate if needed.
7. Optional: add **Remarks**, **Opening hours**, restrictions and **Contact details** (see below).
8. Click **Save**.

When you save a new location, Transportial checks for duplicates. If the same location already exists, the **Dual location** message shows its name. Choose **No** to go back, or **Yes** to save it again anyway.

### Areas and ZIP code zones

* **Geo reference**: a map appears with drawing tools at the top right. Draw a polygon, circle or rectangle around the area, for example a port terminal or a low-emission zone.
* **Postalcode Zone**: choose the **Country** and enter **Postalcode from** and **Postalcode to**. Click **\+ Add ZIP code** to add more ranges.

## Opening hours, restrictions and costs

These sections are available for addresses.

* **Opening hours**: expand the section, switch on each day the location is open and enter the **Opening time** and **Closing time**. **Copy from above** copies the hours of the previous day.
* **Limitations**: click **\+ Add restriction** to add rules such as a **Time window limitation**, **Size limitation**, **Weight restriction**, **Vehicle type restriction** or **Emissions Standard Constraint**. Each rule can be **Enforced** or **Preferred**.
* **Cost elements**: with the financial feature, click **\+ Add cost element** to add a fixed cost at this location, such as a terminal fee. See [Pricing categories and cost elements](/en-us/help/pricing-categories).

## View a location

Click a row to open the location. The tabs are:

* **Locations**: the map, type, address, coordinates and remarks, plus **Average action times** (**Average loading time**, **Average unload time**, **Average stop time**) and **Contact details**.
* **Actions**: the stops planned or carried out at this location. Filter with **Select status** and **Select a date range**.
* **Complaints**: complaints linked to this location.
* **Geofences**: only with the FMS feature. See [Set up a geofence on a location](/en-us/help/location-geofences).

## Edit or remove a location

1. Click **Edit** at the end of the row, or open the location and click the pencil icon.
2. Make your changes and click **Save**.
3. To see earlier versions, open the location and click the history icon (**Version history**).
4. To remove a location, click **Remove** at the end of the row and confirm with **Remove**.

Link a location to a business in the business form (**Enter location**) to make it that company's address. Transportial uses it as the billing address when you pick the business as a customer.
