# Give groups of users the same set-up with settings groups

Use settings groups (perspectives) to give users a start page, hidden fields, shared views and default settings, and let them switch between groups.

Updated October 4, 2026

**Who can do this:** Role level 800 or higher and the settingsGroup permission.

A settings group, also called a perspective, is a ready-made set-up for a type of work. A planning group can open on the plan board and hide financial fields, while a finance group opens on invoices with its own column layouts. Users can belong to several groups and switch between them during the day.

## What a settings group contains

| Field | What it does |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Name** | The name users see when they switch. |
| **Landing view** | The view members land on when they open the app, for example the plan board. Defaults to the dashboard. |
| **Switch key** | One letter or number. Members press ctrl + shift (Mac) or alt + shift (Windows) together with this key to switch to the group. |
| Users and teams | Who belongs to the group: individual users, and every user of the teams you choose in **Select a team...**. |
| **Hidden Fields** | Form and filter fields members do not see while the group is active. They are combined with the platform's and the user's own hidden fields. |
| Browser settings | View settings stored in the browser, such as column layouts and board configurations, shared with all members (see below). |
| **Default user settings** | Personal settings to copy onto every member when you apply the group. |
| **Primary** | The group used for users who have not chosen one. Only one group can be primary. |

## Create a settings group

1. Open the side menu (☰, top right) and choose **Groups settings**.
2. Click **\+ Create group setting**.
3. Enter the **Name**, the **Landing view** and, optionally, a **Switch key**.
4. Add users, and teams in **Select a team...**.
5. Type the fields to hide in **Hidden Fields** and press Enter after each one.
6. Optionally, take over view settings from your browser (see below) and fill in the **Default user settings**.
7. Switch on **Primary** if this should be the default group.
8. Click **Save**.

## Share your view set-up with the group

Set up a board or table the way you want it (columns, widths, filters) in your own browser first. Then:

1. Open the settings group and click the pencil (✎) to edit it.
2. Click **Take over from this browser**.
3. Tick the settings to share, or click **Select all**. Settings marked **overwrites current value** replace what the group has now.
4. Click **Take over selected**.
5. Click **Save**.

You can also add or change entries by hand with **Add attribute** (a **Name** and a **Value**).

## Apply the group to its members

Open the group in the list. The detail panel shows the members, **Last time applied** and the **Version number**. Click **Apply** to copy the **Default user settings** onto the personal settings of every member (direct members and team members) and to push the shared browser settings to their devices.

**Apply** overwrites the members' own personal settings for every setting in **Default user settings**. Tell your users before you apply.

## Switch between groups

* Press the group's switch key (see above).
* Or open the side menu, choose **Show shortcuts** and click a group under **Switch group settings**. This list shows every group you can switch to, also those without a key.
* Each user can choose their **Default perspective** in their own **User interface** settings. See [Personal settings](/en-us/help/personal-settings).

After switching, you go to the group's landing view.

## Edit or delete a group

Click **Edit** at the end of the row to open **Update group setting**, or **Remove** and confirm in the **Delete Group Setting** dialog.
