# Manage types, attributes and pricing categories

Create shipment, vehicle, fuel and equipment types with default values, colored attributes to tag records, and pricing categories with ledger codes.

Updated October 5, 2026

**Who can do this:** Role level above 600 (internal users only).

Types, attributes and pricing categories are lists you define once and then pick from across Transportial. They keep data consistent: everyone uses the same shipment types, the same tags and the same revenue categories.

## Types

A type classifies a record. The **Target Entity Type** decides what it classifies: **Transport equipment type** and **Transport equipment subtype** (means of transport, such as a trailer and its subtype), **Shipment type**, **Fuel type** or **Vehicle type**. A type can also bring default values and hide fields when it is chosen, which makes forms faster to fill in.

### Create a type

1. Open the side menu (☰, top right), choose **Settings** and click the **Types** tab.
2. Click **Create New Type**.
3. Choose the **Select Target Entity Type**.
4. Enter the **Type Label** (the name users see) and the **Value** (a short code, for example for integrations).
5. For a **Transport equipment subtype**, choose the **Parent Type**.
6. Under **Financial**, optionally enter a **Deposit value**, for example the deposit on a pallet. When it is above zero, choose a pricing category in **Select price category**.
7. Click **Add Default Property** to add values filled in automatically when the type is chosen: a **Name** (the field) and a **Value**.
8. In **Hidden Fields**, type the fields to hide when this type is chosen and press Enter after each.
9. Click **Save**.

Use **Search Types** to find a type. Click a row to see its details and **Default Properties**, **Edit** to change it, or **Remove** and confirm in the **Delete Type** dialog.

## Attributes

Attributes are colored tags you attach to vehicles, drivers, means of transport, shipments, trips and constraints, for example "ADR", "Cooled" or "Tail lift". They help planners see at a glance what a resource can do or what a load needs.

1. Open **Settings** and click the **Variables** tab.
2. Scroll to **Attributes**.
3. Enter a **Name** and pick a color.
4. Click **Create**.
5. To change one, click **Edit** in the list, adjust it and click **Update** (or **Cancel**).
6. To delete one, click **Remove**.

On a vehicle, driver or shipment form, choose attributes in **Select attributes**. You can also type a new name there and choose **Add "…"** to create it on the spot.

## Pricing categories

A pricing category is a kind of revenue or cost, such as freight, fuel surcharge or tolls. Prices, quote lines and invoice lines are classified by it, and its ledger codes are used when invoices are sent to your accounting package.

1. Open **Settings**, click the **Variables** tab and go to **Pricing Category**.
2. Enter the **Name**, the **Credit code** (revenue account) and the **Debit code** (cost account).
3. Optionally, enter a **Default value**.
4. Use the first switch to make the category active (**Enabled** in the list).
5. Use the second switch to decide whether it counts towards a trip's expected revenue (**Trip revenue** in the list). Switch it off for categories that are not real revenue.
6. Click **Create**.

The same tab holds your **Tax Rates**. See [Tax rates](/en-us/help/tax-rates).
