# Record damage to vehicles and equipment

Log damage with a date and description, linked to the vehicle, trailer or shipment involved.

**Who can do this:** Permission to view damages of vehicles or means of transport, set in your role.

A damage record describes what happened, when, and which vehicle, means of transport or shipment was involved. Damages are kept on the **Damages** tab of the vehicle or equipment so everyone sees the history.

## Record a damage

1. Open the side menu (☰) and choose **Vehicles** or **Means of transport**.
2. Click the vehicle or equipment to open it.
3. Choose the **Damages** tab.
4. Click **Create Damage**. The vehicle or equipment is already filled in.
5. Enter a **Name** (required), for example "Dent rear door".
6. Enter a **Description** and the **Date & Time** of the damage.
7. If a load was involved, select the **Shipment**.
8. Click **Save**.

## Fields

| Field                                | Use                                         |
| ------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------- |
| **Name**                             | Short title shown in the list.              |
| **Description**                      | What happened and the extent of the damage. |
| **Date & Time**                      | When the damage happened or was found.      |
| **Vehicle**, **Transport Equipment** | The units involved. You can link both.      |
| **Shipment**                         | The shipment that was damaged or involved.  |

## View, edit and remove

1. Open the **Damages** tab. The list shows the **Name**, **Date & Time** and last update.
2. Click a damage to see its details.
3. Click **Edit** to change it, or **Remove** and confirm to delete it.

Damage to goods that the customer complains about can also be logged as a complaint. See [Log complaints](/en-us/help/complaints).
