It requests the fastest route and lays it over the official map of the conceded motorway network (Ministère de la Transition écologique), which records the concession company of every section. Toll-free motorways and national roads run by the state are not charged. French tolls are priced per journey between two toll plazas, per operator. Where the operator’s tariff grid is available and both ends of your stretch are at one of its plazas, the calculator uses that official price. Tunnels and bridges with a single price are added at that price. Other stretches are estimated from the median price per km of the published grids and marked as an estimate. ## French truck toll: frequently asked questions ### How do motorway tolls work in France? Most French motorways are run by concession companies such as ASF, APRR, Sanef and Cofiroute, which charge a toll per journey. On most of the network you take a ticket or pass a gantry on entry and pay at the exit, for that pair of plazas; some sections have a barrier with a fixed price instead. State-run motorways and national roads are toll-free. ### Which toll class is my truck? Class 3 covers vehicles with two axles that weigh over 3.5 tonnes or are at least 3 metres high, such as rigid trucks. Class 4 covers vehicles or combinations with three or more axles above the same limits, such as articulated trucks. Choose the class above to see your price. ### Why are French tolls not a fixed price per kilometre? Each concession company sets its own tariff grid per entry and exit plaza, revised every 1 February (on average +0.86% in 2026). The price per km therefore differs between operators and even between sections of one motorway, which is why the calculator prices each stretch separately. ### Which prices are exact? Lines marked “official price” use the operator’s published tariff grid for your entry and exit plaza, and lines marked “fixed price” use the published price of a tunnel or bridge. More operators’ grids are added over time; the other stretches are marked “estimate”. ### How accurate are the estimates? An estimate multiplies the tolled kilometres by the median price per km of the published grids for your truck class. On a single stretch the real plaza-to-plaza price can differ by 15–25%, so use estimates for planning and quotes, and check the operator’s own simulator for an exact invoice amount. ### What do the Alpine tunnels and the big bridges cost? For a class 4 truck, a single trip through the Mont-Blanc tunnel costs €404.80 from France to Italy, the Fréjus tunnel €404.80, the Millau viaduct €47.70, the Pont de Normandie €15.10 and the Pont de Tancarville €7.50 (2026 prices). Euro 0 to 4 trucks may not use the Mont-Blanc and Fréjus tunnels. ### How does a truck pay the toll? With an electronic toll badge (télépéage, including European EETS services) or by card at the plaza. On free-flow sections without barriers, such as parts of the A13 and A14 in Normandy, gantries read the badge or number plate and a vehicle without a badge pays online afterwards. ### Are there new truck charges coming in France? Yes. From 2027 Alsace charges trucks over 3.5 tonnes per kilometre on the A35, A36 and some regional roads (R-Pass), and the Grand Est region is preparing a similar charge. They are not included in this calculator yet. France does not vary motorway tolls by CO₂ class in 2026.
