Transportial vs Descartes

Descartes Systems Group, based in Waterloo, Ontario and listed on Nasdaq and the TSX, sells logistics software in modular solution lines: route planning and driver mobile apps, a multimodal TMS for shippers in North America and Europe, forwarder and customs systems, e-commerce and warehouse software, and EDI over its Global Logistics Network. It keeps adding to the range through acquisitions, including 3GTMS in 2025 and Extensiv in 2026. It suits shippers, distributors and forwarders that want specialized modules. Transportial combines orders, planning, driver app, portal and invoicing in one application with an OTM5 data model.

Key differences

How Transportial differs from Descartes

One application from order to invoice

Descartes sells routing, shipper TMS, forwarder systems and warehouse software as separate solution lines. In Transportial, orders, plan board, VRP solver, driver app, customer portal, pricing engine and invoicing share one application and data model.

OTM5 data model and eCMR

Orders, shipments and trips follow the open OTM5 standard, and the OpenMove driver app records eCMR consignment notes alongside ePOD photos and signatures. Descartes does not advertise OTM5 or eCMR.

Multi-tenant and white-label

One Transportial environment can serve several companies or customers, each with its own branding, portal and login-free tracking links. Descartes does not advertise multi-tenant or white-label use.

Published pricing and a free Starter tier

Transportial charges per transaction, from $0.50 down to $0.01 with volume, plus fees for users and vehicles beyond the free allowance, and the Starter tier is free. Descartes’ TMS and route planning pages do not list prices.
