Desktop settings and environments
Set how the desktop app starts, closes and behaves, and switch the environment the app connects to.
Updated October 4, 2026
Desktop settings belong to the installation on your computer, not to your Transportial account. A colleague who uses your account on another laptop has their own. You only see the Desktop app settings tab inside Transportial Desktop.
Open the desktop settings
- Press Cmd/Ctrl+, or choose Desktop settings… in the app menu (Mac) or the Settings menu (Windows and Linux). The tray menu has Desktop settings too.
- Change a switch. It takes effect immediately; there is no save button.
You can also open the side menu (☰), choose Settings and click the Desktop app tab.
Window and startup
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start when I log in | Starts Transportial when you log in to your computer. Off by default. |
| Start minimized to the tray | When started at login, start hidden in the tray. Only available with the option above. |
| Minimize to the tray instead of the taskbar | Minimizing hides the window in the tray (Windows and Linux). |
| Keep running in the tray when the window is closed | On by default. Closing the window keeps the app, notifications and badge running. Switch off to quit when you close the window. |
| Keep detached windows on top | Pop-out windows stay above other windows. |
Downloads
- Ask where to save each download: choose a folder each time instead of using Downloads.
- Notify me when a download finishes: show Download complete.
The Desktop notifications settings are explained in Desktop notifications and updates.
Application
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enable the system-wide shortcut to show the app | Cmd/Ctrl+Alt+T shows or hides Transportial from any application. Switch off if it clashes with another program. |
| Check spelling while typing | Underlines spelling mistakes. Right-click a word for suggestions or Add to dictionary. |
| Use hardware acceleration (restart required) | Uses the graphics card to draw the app. Switch off if the window flickers or stays blank, then restart the app. |
| Check for updates automatically / Download updates in the background | See Desktop notifications and updates. |
| Offer the local development server as an environment | For software developers only. Leave it off. |
Switch environment
The environment decides which Transportial deployment the app connects to. Almost everyone uses Production. Acceptance is a test environment, used when Transportial or your administrator asks you to try something before it goes live.
- On the Desktop app settings tab, open the Environment list. You can also use Environment in the app menu, the Settings menu or the tray menu.
- Choose the environment.
- Click Switch and reload in the confirmation, or Cancel.
- Log in to that environment.
Switching reloads every window and signs you out of the current environment. Data in Acceptance is separate from your real data in Production; do not enter real orders there.
About at the bottom of the tab shows the Version of the app and the address it is Connected to.
