Live freight map

Live

Container ships, tankers, cargo flights and rail freight on one live map.

Ports, cargo airports and rail freight hubs

Each hub has its own page with live traffic: the ships in port and approaching, the cargo flights on the ground and in the air around the airport, and the rail freight corridors through a terminal.

About the data

The map combines live position reports from ships, aircraft and freight trains with reference data on ports, airports and rail corridors, and refreshes every few minutes. Coverage varies by region: positions are most complete near coasts and on busy air routes, and live train positions are only available in some countries.

Frequently asked questions

What does the live freight map show?

Cargo ships and tankers at sea and in port, freighter flights and passenger wide-bodies in the air, live freight trains where open data exists, plus ports, cargo airports and the main rail freight corridors. Click any ship, flight, train or hub for its details.

How are ships tracked?

Ships report their position, speed and course every few seconds. The map shows the latest position of every cargo ship and tanker we receive.

Why are there few ships in the middle of the ocean?

Ship positions are most complete near coasts. Far out at sea a ship can drop off the map for a while; it reappears as it approaches land again.

How are cargo flights tracked?

Aircraft broadcast their position in flight. The map shows freighters and, as a separate layer, passenger wide-bodies, whose holds also carry a large share of air cargo.

How do you know a flight is a freighter?

We classify every flight by who operates it and what kind of flight it is. Freighters are shown by default; switch on passenger wide-bodies in the layers menu to include belly cargo.

Can I see freight trains live?

Where live freight train positions are available, the map shows them. Elsewhere it shows the rail network, the European rail freight corridors and the main China–Europe and North American freight lanes.

How current is the data?

The map refreshes every minute. Each detail panel shows how old the last position is.

Is the freight map free?

Yes. No login, no limits. To track your own shipments, across trucks, ships, flights and trains, use the Transportial platform, which links each transport order to live positions from carriers and telematics.
