Use OpenMove without a connection
Keep working when you lose mobile signal: see which trip updates OpenMove saves and sends later, and what needs a connection.
Updated October 5, 2026
Drivers often lose signal at a warehouse, in a tunnel or abroad. OpenMove keeps a copy of your trips and chats on your phone, and saves most of your updates so it can send them when you are back online.
What works without a connection
- Viewing: trips, stops and chats you opened before.
- Trip progress: starting a trip, starting and completing tasks, finishing a trip and adding a break or wait.
- Questionnaires: answers, including photos and signatures.
- Chat: writing messages.
OpenMove saves these updates on your phone and sends them in the order you made them as soon as you are back online. The trips list refreshes on its own when the connection returns.
When an update cannot be sent
If sending an update fails, OpenMove tries again by itself, waiting a little longer after each attempt. After several failed attempts it stops trying on its own, and a red bar above the bottom menu shows how many updates were not sent, for example 1 update was not sent.
- Make sure you have mobile data or Wi-Fi.
- Tap Retry in the red bar.
- Wait until the bar disappears. Your updates have then reached the office.
- If the bar keeps coming back, tell your planner which updates are missing.
Offline, a task you complete may keep its old status on screen until OpenMove has sent the update. Do not tap the same button again; the update is already saved.
What needs a connection
- Logging in.
- Answering trip offers.
- Adding documents to a trip and uploading chat attachments.
- Saving your activity and changing your profile picture.
- Sharing your location.
- Loading trips or chats you have never opened on this phone.
Work through a dead zone
- Before you drive into an area without signal, open the trip so OpenMove has its latest version.
- Start and complete your tasks as usual.
- When you have signal again, keep the app open for a moment so it can send your updates.
- Pull down the Trips list to check that the trip shows its new status.
- If an update still has not arrived after a while, tell your planner through chat or by phone.
Signing out and signing in again
- When you sign out, OpenMove first tries to send waiting updates. If some cannot be sent, it tells you how many would be lost, so you can cancel and try again with signal. See Manage your account and settings.
- If OpenMove logs you out by itself, for example because your session expired, your unsent updates are kept. They are sent when you log in again with the same account.
- If another driver logs in on the same phone while your updates are still waiting, they see a warning first. If they continue, your unsent updates are deleted.
Signing out deletes the trips and chats stored on your phone, and any updates you chose to give up. Make sure you are online and the trip is up to date before you sign out.
