e-CMR

An e-CMR is the digital equivalent of the paper CMR consignment note, enabled by the Additional Protocol to the CMR Convention, allowing the document to be created, signed, and shared electronically.

electronic CMRdigital consignment note

The e-CMR carries the same legal weight as a paper CMR in countries that have ratified the e-CMR protocol. Going digital removes paper handling, speeds up proof-of-delivery, reduces disputes, and makes consignment data instantly available to all parties in real time.

In a TMS, an e-CMR is populated automatically from the transport order and signed on a driver app at pickup and delivery, with the signed document attached to the order.

Is the e-CMR legally valid?

In countries that have ratified the e-CMR Additional Protocol, the electronic consignment note has the same legal status as the paper version. Adoption varies by country, so it is worth confirming for the specific routes you operate.
