- Real-time messaging: Powered by Socket.IO, messages are delivered instantly to all participants. No polling, no delays.
- Conversation threads per context: Each trip, transport order, or ad-hoc conversation has its own thread. Dispatchers see all messages in context.
- Office to driver: Dispatchers can message drivers directly from the Plan Board or the trip detail view. Drivers reply from the OpenMove app.
- Push notifications: New messages generate push notifications on mobile devices and browser notifications on desktop.
- Full message history: Every message is stored permanently. Search conversations, review what was communicated about a specific order.
- Read receipts: See when a message has been delivered and read. Critical when you need to confirm a driver has acknowledged a route change.
Technical details
Chat is implemented over Socket.IO with room-based architecture. Messages are persisted to PostgreSQL. Push notifications use Firebase Cloud Messaging.
