Consignment

A consignment is a discrete shipment of goods sent from one party to another under a single transport order, with its own pickup, delivery, and status lifecycle.

A single transport order can contain one or many consignments, each with its own loading and unloading points, goods, and instructions. Tracking transport at the consignment level gives precise visibility — each consignment can be accepted, planned, in transit, delivered, or cancelled independently.

Operationally, consignments can be split across multiple trips or combined onto one trip as plans evolve, which is why a TMS treats the consignment as a first-class, individually trackable entity.
