Put an order or consignment on hold

Stop an order or consignment from being dispatched while you sort something out, see what a hold blocks and release it again.

Updated 13 October 2026

Who can do this: The orderHold platform feature. Putting on hold and releasing need the permissions hold:transportOrder and release:transportOrder (hold:consignment and release:consignment for consignments).

Put an order on hold when it must not go out yet, for example while you wait for payment, customs papers or an answer from the customer. A hold cancels nothing: the order stays in your lists and can still be planned, but nothing is dispatched until you release it.

Put an order on hold

  1. Open the transport order.
  2. Click Put on hold below the order number (#…) at the top. The window Put order on hold opens.
  3. Enter a Reason (optional), for example "Waiting for customs documents". If your platform requires a reason, the field is called Reason and you cannot confirm without it.
  4. Click Put on hold.

The order now shows the On hold tag with the reason, who put it on hold and when. All consignments of the order are put on hold too.

Put a single consignment on hold

  1. Open the consignment.
  2. Click Put on hold below the header. The window Put consignment on hold opens.
  3. Enter the reason and click Put on hold.

Release the hold

Click Release next to the On hold tag. The hold ends straight away. Releasing an order also releases the consignments and trips that were held because of that order. A consignment or trip that was put on hold by itself stays on hold until you release it separately.

What a hold does

  • Nothing is dispatched. While something is on hold, Transportial sends nothing about it to drivers, board computers, integrations, message automations, workflows, connected apps or carriers. Those updates are sent when you release it. Cancellations still go out.
  • Trips follow the hold according to your platform setting (see below). Trips that have already started, finished or were cancelled are never put on hold.
  • A held order cannot be accepted. You see This order is on hold. Release it before accepting it.
  • Planning still works. You can plan a held consignment. A new trip that carries it is put on hold as well, following the same setting. A trip on hold cannot be confirmed, started or offered to drivers until it is released.
  • Change requests from the customer portal cannot be applied to an order on hold.

Find orders on hold

The transport orders, consignments and trips lists show an On hold tag on held rows. Point at the tag to see the reason. Use the On hold filter to list only held records. See Filter, sort and arrange lists.

Set how holds work on your platform

  1. Open Settings and click the Environment tab.
  2. Open the section Action Result Questionnaires and go to Hold (do not dispatch).
  3. In Trips that follow a hold, choose No trips, Trips that carry only the held goods (the default) or All trips that carry the held goods.
  4. Switch on Require a reason to put something on hold if every hold needs an explanation. It is off by default.
  5. Click Save.

To tell someone automatically when an order is held or released, use the trigger events After putting an order on hold, After releasing an order from hold, After putting a consignment on hold and After releasing a consignment from hold in message automations or workflows.

The hold controls appear only when the platform feature orderHold is switched on under Functions in the Environment settings. The same feature lets you hide single stops from the driver; see Add loading, unloading and other actions.
