Set up geofences
Turn a location into a geofence with a radius, and choose whether a vehicle entering or leaving it raises an alert.
Updated 4 October 2026
A geofence is a circular zone around one of your locations, such as a depot or a customer site. When a vehicle enters or leaves the zone, Transportial can raise an alert. You manage geofences on the Geofences sub-tab of the Fleet FMS view.
A geofence is always based on an existing location. Create the location first if it does not exist yet; see Locations.
Create a geofence
- Open the dashboard and click the Fleet FMS tab.
- Click the Geofences sub-tab.
- Click New geofence.
- Find the location in Search a location to fence and select it.
- Switch on Act as geofence.
- Enter the Radius in metres. The minimum is 50 m; the default is 500 m. The map preview shows the zone.
- Switch on Alert on enter and/or Alert on exit.
- Click Save.
Manage geofences
The Geofences table lists each zone with its Name, Radius, Alert on enter and Alert on exit. Use the search box to find one.
- To change a geofence, choose Edit on its row, adjust the settings and click Save.
- To remove a geofence, choose Remove on its row and confirm with Remove.
Choose a good radius
- Make the zone large enough to cover the whole site, including the yard and the entrance road, so a vehicle waiting at the gate is already inside.
- Avoid zones that overlap with a busy road next to the site. Vehicles driving past would then raise enter and exit alerts.
- Start with the default of 500 m and adjust it after a few days if you get too many or too few alerts.
Removing a geofence keeps the location. Only the zone and its enter and exit alerts are removed.
