OpenMove driver app

Share your location

Allow OpenMove to share your position during active trips and while on duty, also in the background, so the planner can follow you and update ETAs.

Updated 13 October 2026

OpenMove shares your position with Transportial while you work: during an active trip and while you are on duty. Your planner sees it on the map, the ETAs of your stops are based on it, and your arrival at a stop can be registered automatically. When you have no active trip and are not on duty, OpenMove does not share your location.

When OpenMove shares your location

  • While one of your trips is In transit, so from the moment you start it until it is finished.
  • While your current activity is Driving or Work, even without a trip. An activity that started more than 24 hours ago no longer counts.

Your company can change these trip statuses, activities and times. Sharing stops by itself when the trip is finished (also when the planner finishes it), when you go off duty or when you sign out.

Allow location access

The first time OpenMove needs your location, it asks for permission in two steps.

  1. Allow location access while using the app when your phone asks.
  2. OpenMove then explains why it also needs your location in the background, in the window Share your location in the background. Tap Continue.
  3. On the next screen of your phone, choose Always (iPhone) or Allow all the time (Android).

With this permission, OpenMove keeps sharing your position when the app is in the background or your phone is locked. Tap Not now if you do not want that yet; your position is then only shared reliably while the app is open.

Your company decides whether OpenMove asks for background access. If it does not, only the first step appears.

If a bar asks you to allow location

When your position cannot be shared during a trip, an orange bar above the bottom menu tells you why:

MessageWhat to do
Your location is only shared reliably while the app is open.Tap Allow and choose Always or Allow all the time.
Allow location access to share your position with your planner.Tap Allow and allow location access.
Location access is off, so your position is not shared with your planner.Tap Settings and allow location access for OpenMove in your phone's settings.
Location services are off, so your position is not shared with your planner.Tap Settings and switch on location services for your phone.

Your phone shows its own Always question only once. If you said no before, Allow opens your phone's settings instead: open Location for OpenMove and choose Always or Allow all the time.

On Android: the notification while sharing

While OpenMove shares your location on Android, your phone shows the notification Sharing your location. On Android 13 and later, OpenMove asks once for permission to show notifications before sharing starts. If you refuse, sharing continues; you just do not see the notification. See Notifications in OpenMove.

How often your position is sent

  • At most every 30 seconds, and only after you have moved about 50 metres.
  • When you stand still, still every 5 minutes, so the planner knows your position is current.
  • Without internet, OpenMove keeps your positions on the phone (up to 500 by default) and sends them when you are back online. Beyond that, the oldest positions are dropped.

Your company can change these numbers. Positions that arrive more than 5 minutes late, for example after a dead zone, are only kept as route history: they do not move your current position on the planner's map.

If your company also receives positions from the truck's board computer, the planner may follow the truck from there as well.

What your planner sees

  • Your latest position on the map in the Transportial web app, so they can follow the trip live. See Track a trip live.
  • ETAs for your next stops, based on where you are.
  • Whether you are close enough to receive a nearby trip offer. See Accept trip offers.

Sharing your location also helps you: planners can see that you are close to a stop and update the customer, so you get fewer phone calls on the road.
