Getting started

What is Transportial?

An overview of the Transportial TMS and the key concepts you meet everywhere: platforms, orders, consignments, goods, trips, actions and more.

Updated 4 October 2026

Transportial is a transport management system (TMS) that runs in your web browser, in the Transportial Desktop app and, for drivers, in the OpenMove mobile app. You use it to take in transport orders, plan them onto trips, follow the execution live and invoice the work afterwards.

This article explains the words you will see throughout the app and the help center. Knowing how they relate makes every other screen easier to understand.

Key concepts

ConceptWhat it is
PlatformYour company's own environment in Transportial, with its own users, data, settings and branding. Some people work in several platforms and switch between them in the header.
Transport orderA customer's request to move something. It records the customer, references, prices and documents, and contains one or more consignments.
ConsignmentOne shipment within an order: what goes from where to where. A consignment holds the goods and the actions (such as load and unload) needed to move them.
GoodsThe cargo itself: pallets, boxes, containers or bulk, with quantities, weights, dimensions and attributes such as dangerous goods.
TripThe execution of work by a vehicle and driver (or a partner you forward the work to). A trip collects the actions of one or more consignments in a driving order.
Action / stopA step on a trip, for example loading, unloading, a pause or moving between locations. The driver starts and completes each action in OpenMove or on a board computer.
BusinessA company you work with: a customer, supplier, carrier or partner. Businesses have contacts, locations, contracts and prices.
LocationAn address or place, such as a warehouse, depot or customer site, with opening hours and coordinates.
Vehicle, equipment and driverYour resources. Vehicles are trucks and vans, transport equipment covers trailers, containers and other load carriers, and drivers (called Chauffeur in some screens) are the people who drive.

How the work flows

  1. Create or import a transport order with its consignments and goods.
  2. Plan the consignments onto trips with the plan board, planner, map or optimizer.
  3. Assign a vehicle and driver, and send the trip to the driver's app or board computer.
  4. Follow the trip live while the driver executes the actions and records proof of delivery.
  5. Review costs and revenue, then create quotes and invoices.

Your view depends on your role

Transportial is highly configurable. Your administrator decides which features are switched on for your platform and which permissions your role has. Menu items, dashboard tabs and form fields that you do not need, or are not allowed to use, are hidden. If a screen in this help center is missing for you, it is usually switched off for your platform or your role. Ask your administrator.

Customers and partners can also get access to your platform as external users. They see a reduced customer portal with their own orders and companies only.
