Create a trip
Build a trip from consignments and stops, assign a vehicle, calculate the route and save it for execution.
Updated 4 October 2026
A trip is the work one vehicle (or one carrier) does: an ordered list of stops with the consignments it loads and unloads along the way. You create a trip when you plan transport orders, when you want to send a vehicle somewhere empty, or when you subcontract work to a partner.
Ways to start a new trip
- Open the side menu (☰) and choose New trip.
- Press Ctrl + T on a Mac or Alt + T on Windows.
- Right-click a transport order, consignment or vehicle and choose Plan. The new trip is pre-filled with that order's stops or that vehicle.
- Click + Create trip on the Trips tab of a vehicle.
- Drag a consignment onto the plan board or planner. See Plan with the plan board.
Create the trip
- Open the side menu (☰) and choose New trip. The New trip panel opens.
- If your platform uses subcontracting, choose the trip type at the top: Intern, Forwarded or Internally blank.
- Enter a Name for the trip.
- Set the Start date & time.
- Type in the Search vehicle field and choose the vehicle that drives the trip.
- In the consignment selector, type in Find consignments... and select the consignments to carry. They move from Available to Selected and their stops appear as actions below.
- Drag the actions into the order you want to drive them, or click + Add action to add extra work such as a break, refuelling or customs.
- Click Calculate route.
- If Route options appear, click the option you want (for example Fastest, Eco or Cheapest).
- Check the Distance, Duration, the Costs overview and the map.
- Click Save.
For an internal trip with a vehicle and at least two stops with an address, Save stays disabled until the route is calculated. Every time you change the actions you see You have to calculate the route before creating the trip again: click Recalculate route and then save.
Trip types
| Type | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Intern | Work you drive with your own vehicle and drivers. This is the default. |
| Forwarded | Work a carrier does for you under a capacity contract. You pick the Capacity Contract instead of a vehicle and the route is optional. See Forward a trip to a partner. |
| Internally blank | A trip without consignments, such as an empty repositioning run or an unaccompanied trailer on a ferry. You add the actions yourself. This tab is not available once consignments are selected. |
The type tabs only appear when your platform has the capacity (subcontracting) feature. Without it every trip is internal.
Other fields
- Documents: attach files, such as instructions for the driver.
- Link to previous trip: when this trip starts, its route begins at the last stop of the vehicle's previous trip instead of the vehicle's current position.
- Cost elements: extra costs for this trip, such as a ferry ticket. Only shown with the financial feature. See Trip costs and revenue.
- Edit Route: after calculating, drag the route line on the map to force a different road, then click Save Route.
- Calculate charging plan: with the stacking feature, works out how the goods fit in the vehicle. The result appears on the trip's Stacking tab.
A new trip is saved with the status Accepted. It is not sent to the driver or board computer until you confirm it. See Trip statuses.
Next steps
Open the trip to check it (see The trip detail panel), then confirm it and send it to the driver.
